San Miguel's Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes is one of the best fine arts schools in the country, offering classes ranging from life drawing to ballet. In the 1940's the Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros studied art here, and many other artists have followed in his footsteps. In 1950 another art school, the Insituto Allende was founded. It continues to draw students from all over the world to study the visual arts and offers both a Bachelor of Visual Arts and a Master of Fine Arts degree.
