The second federal bribery trial of a Philadelphia City Council member in months begins today, following the conviction of Bobby Henon last fall.

  • Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson and his wifeconsultant Dawn Chavous, faces two counts of wire fraud related to alleged real estate development deals in South Philadelphia.

Both have maintained their innocence from the start, reports Jordan Levy, but face up to 40 years in prison and half a million dollars in fines.

A new piece of public art is being installed on the Delaware River waterfront between Race Street Pier and Cherry Street Pier.

  • Called “Weaver’s Knot: Leaf Folding”, the piece features two giant loops of steel balls suspended from masts that match the bridge. It’s like one of those perpetual motion desk toys crossed with a Mobius strip.

It won’t be officially finished until April, reports Streets Dept, but it’s already a very striking presence.
