Local artist unveils sculpture to be exhibited at Summerfest

MADISON, Wis. – A Madison artist hoping to earn $5,000 for his work unveiled a new sculpture Friday morning at a UScellular store on the west side of town.

The cellphone provider is holding an art contest between five artists, with the winner taking home the $5,000 prize.

Audifax unveiled the six foot by six foot sculpture, “Big Smile”, at the UScellular store on Junction Road. The artwork is designed to represent the city’s history and will be displayed at Milwaukee Summerfest as well as other Madison-area locations, including Brat Fest, over the summer.

The work was done by freehand spray paint using cardboard.

“It doesn’t matter who you are; art changes lives,” Audifax said. “If you have a paintbrush in your hand, it doesn’t have to be beautiful, but this connection that we get is so beautiful and important, and I would really like to spread it.”

People will be able to vote for their favorite artist starting May 27.

As part of the event, UScellular also gave away 500 free Summerfest tickets.
