In Robert Browning’s poem Home Thoughts From Abroad, he put himself in the position of someone who has been away from home and who he misses dearly.

Harry Bell cheekily flipped the concept and named his exhibit “Home Thoughts of Abroad.”

After two years of enforced isolation in the North East of England, this lover of European travel is keenly feeling the loss of strolling the sunny streets of Greece, Italy and Spain, and even the colder streets encountered during a visit to the Czech Republic. .

To assuage this heartfelt need, he’s put together a collection of his favorite paintings of these places in the hopes that they’ll lift our spirits through the winter months and hint at what we might find.

Harry Bell is an award-winning artist from the North East of England. born in Gateshead in 1947 and graduated from Newcastle University in 2001 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art.

His work has been widely exhibited throughout the country both as a solo artist and in group shows, and his paintings are in public and private collections in the UK, New Zealand and the USA. .

The exhibit can be viewed in the upper foyer of Alnwick Playhouse. The opening hours are: Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
