The Fresh Air Fund organized and published an online gallery of artwork from New York City children, including several from Queens, for its latest community art project, “Portrait of Summer” .
Over 100 children have participated in creating a gallery of these creative drawings, colorful paintings and digital art.. The Fresh Air Fund is a nonprofit organization that provides transformative experiences for children in low-income communities in New York City.
“Portrait of Summer” encouraged young people’s imaginations to soar as they reflected on their summer experiences in which Fresh Air children discovered new talents, developed self-confidence, made new friends and made new friends. amused.
Ayesha, an 8-year-old girl from Queens, thought about her loved ones.
“When I created my Summer Portrait, I had to use my imagination and draw! I drew my friends, family and I at the beach because I wanted to show off what I do in the summer, ”Ayesha said. “I can’t wait to show it to my family! “
The kids at Fresh Air shared what summer means to them in a social media campaign using the hashtag, #PortraitofSummer. The digital art exhibit can be viewed on their website at www.freshair.org/portrait-of-summer.
Zoe, an 11-year-old girl from Queens, based her work on her experience at the camp.
“I love camping! I liked all the activities and new people I met. I love kayaking, rowing and exploring the farm. I added signs in my drawing, the “Mask required” and “Attention, pleasure! ”Zoe said. “When I think of summer, it reminds me of swimming, crafts and the fresh air!”
The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, non-profit organization that has provided free outdoor summer experiences to over 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Despite the complications related to COVID-19, the Fund continued to provide safe, fun, engaging and rewarding experiences for young people in New York City. Fresh Air children can also participate in leadership and education programs offered by the fund year-round.
