Leonardo da Vinci once said: “Painting is poetry which is seen rather than felt and poetry is painting which is felt rather than seen”. Over the centuries, poets have inspired visual artists to create images that express emotion and encapsulate the stories told in their poetry.

Conversely, the painters show emotion, political commentary and humanity, which capture the imagination of the poet and translate into writing.

From Pieter Bruegel the Elder and Edmund Spencer in the 16th century to Albert Bierstadt and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in the 19th century, this docent-led conference will examine the outcome of those collaborations that have inspired creativity throughout the centuries by providing us with art to enjoy and enjoy.
