Paintings by M Santhosh and T Santhosh, both a Class 12 student and V Monish a Class 10 student, won accolades by participating in Kuraloviyam, a state-level drawing competition organized by the state government as part of Thiruvalluvar Day.
The drawing contest was organized based on the ideals of Tirukkural to instill its moral values in the students. The paintings of the three students were printed in the daily calendar published by the state government.
“Of the four participants from our school, three students passed. They have also won numerous awards in district and state level drawing competitions. I am proud of their achievement,” said G Kesavan, their art teacher.
Kesavan said he only made a few suggestions and all the work was done by the students. “Two of the works were in acrylic and one in watercolour. Many students in the past had also made their mark in such painting competitions, he added.
Students who generously praised their teachers for the achievement said the government should offer financial support to those who excel in the art.
“Just like the priority given to sport in admissions and jobs, the government should also encourage young artists like us. All other schools should have separate lounges like in our school to encourage students,” said T Santhosh.
