Women artists in Odisha create beautiful sand sculptures


Puri: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, students from renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik’s institute created a beautiful sand sculpture on Puri beach in Odisha on Tuesday.

Taking to Twitter, Pattnaik shared the image of the artwork and wrote, “My students created SandArt on International Women’s Day at puri beach in Odisha.”

This year’s sand art was made with the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Future”.

March 8 has been marked as International Women’s Day around the world. The day celebrates the cultural, political and socio-economic achievements of women and girls.

Here are some ways to celebrate International Women’s Day, alone or in a group:

  • Women in the workplace can encourage the whole team to implement a dress code or ask your colleagues to wear one-color clothes to show their support.
  • You can learn about women’s rights. This day is dedicated to celebrating women and their achievements. But it is also important that women know their rights and stay informed of any changes or new policies.
  • You can donate to non-profit organizations that will benefit women. Many non-profit organizations work tirelessly to uplift women and girls, fight for their rights and education, raise important issues around gender parity, defend freedom of expression for marginalized communities, elevate ideologies intersectional feminists and for many similar causes.
  • You can spend quality time with your group via video calls as well as meeting in person, adhering to Covid protocols. Chat, talk about your daily struggles, discuss feminist issues, order each other’s favorite foods and relax.
  • You can support local women-owned brands to empower them. There will be more than enough women-owned brands for you to research online and buy from. Some labels may also support feminist, environmental and other important causes.
  • A morning coffee or tea party can be an easy way to reconnect with the women in your family or friend circle.
  • Gather your girlfriends or family members to see the world through films made by filmmakers or those featuring women in key roles such as Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara directed by Zoya Akhtar, Kahaani starring Vidya Balan.
